Effective date: July 2, 2026
Statedex (“the app,” “we,” “us”) is built to respect your privacy. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
Summary: Statedex keeps your data on your device. We do not operate servers that collect your data, we do not use analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not require an account.
Photos you choose. When you select a photo, the app reads that photo’s embedded EXIF metadata (GPS coordinates and date) on your device to determine which U.S. state the photo was taken in. The app only accesses the specific photos you select; it does not scan your entire photo library and does not upload your photos anywhere.
Derived location (reverse geocoding). To turn GPS coordinates into a state name, the app uses your device operating system’s built-in geocoding service (Apple on iOS, Google on Android). As part of that lookup, the coordinates from your selected photo may be sent to Apple or Google, subject to their respective privacy policies. Statedex does not receive or store these coordinates on any server we control.
Your list of visited states, timeline entries, and app preferences are stored locally on your device. This information stays on your device and is removed if you delete the app.
We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data with us or third parties. No account, name, email, or contact information is required or collected. There are no advertising identifiers, analytics, or tracking technologies in the app.
Statedex does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app is intended for a general audience.
Because your data is stored only on your device, you can remove all app data by deleting the app.
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above reflects the latest version.
